 Uncovering More About
Sandgate’s History
book detailing Sandgate’s unique history has been updated by the Keep Sandgate Beautiful Association (KSBA) Inc.
Celebrate the launch of the revised edition
of Sandgate: Tides of Change with afternoon tea at the SANDBAG Community Centre on 2 December.
KSBA Inc secretary Linda McMahon said the revised edition was published to celebrate KSBA’s 50th anniversary.
“We’ve added more notable residents, including Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Susan Kiefel, and John and Annie Plumridge,” Linda said.
“There is more detail about how the First Nations peoples conducted their lives. We’ve got more historical photos like the Sandgate water ballet in 1948.”
The book will be launched by Brian Hutchison, a fourth-generation resident. Sandgate Voices from the Past, a short historical documentary that draws on the memories of locals living in the area between 1920 and 1950, will also be shown.
“One of the aims of KSBA is to encourage interest and concern about Sandgate and the surrounding areas and the people who live here,” Linda said.
“For those who don’t know about the history of Sandgate, buying the book will give them a really good introduction to Sandgate over the years.”
Sandgate: Tides of Change was written by Maree McDonald in 1997 and republished in 2009. The revised edition can be purchased for $20.
