Liam Kelliher has almost thirty years’ experience as a guitarist and singer. While he is originally from the Northern Territory, he has a strong connection to the Sandgate region too.
“I’ve been coming to Sandgate to visit family and friends and perform for fifteen years. I like the seaside, salt air, laid back locals and the small-town feel of the place very much. It’s like taking a mini-holiday,” he said.
When it comes to his musical influences, Liam’s first guitar hero was his father, who played at parties and taught him his first chords. Other local musicians also gave him hints and tips. Then, it was the great touring Aussie bands who worked hard to bring their shows to places like Darwin.
“The big three for me are Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards. They always get me heading back to the Woodshed when they put out a new song,” Liam said.
Without question, this year has been tough on the live music scene. Liam will play his first gig in months in Sandgate and is hoping there’ll be many more to come.
“We’ve played the Cardy many times over the years. Regulars know how much fun it can be. We’re grateful to have a chance to play live again and intend to raise the bar a little higher and get everybody feeling as good and relaxed as we can on a Sunday afternoon. That’s what it’s all about,” he said.
“The band and I are playing good time rock ‘n’ roll for this one. We’ve got a great trio of local legends raring to go, plus a few guests to keep it rocking, fun and interesting for all.”
If you’re thinking about coming along, Liam had these last words: “Please tell people to stay safe and well. Thankyou Sandgate Guide for always being there for local live music. Plus, BJ, Tonina and staff at the Cardigan Bar, and Arts Queensland for their support for these events.”
