Local Artist Opens Studio to the Public
Local art lovers can now view Jim Hansen's collection of artworks at his newly opened IONA Art Gallery on Flinders Parade.

I am fortunate to have a fairly spacious studio at home and decided to set up a gallery as well to exhibit my artworks,ť he said.

Jim's main artistic interest is landscape painting, and he works in acrylics, watercolour and gouache. The addition of a gallery allows visitors to view his artworks, many of which have been inspired by local scenery and landscape.

I take pride in the Sandgate area and hope that some of my paintings of the local scenery will inspire people to explore our diverse local landscapes,ť Jim said. My artworks may also inspire others to take up painting and interpret the area as they see it.ť

Jim said that local connection to art was important now more than ever.

In such stressful times, art can take the viewer to a more peaceful place and encourage people to express their own individuality,ť he said. Also, community projects like the murals on the retaining walls of the Sandgate State School enliven the local environment and represent the character of the area.ť
