Friday nights are set to go live at Sandgate Bowls Club with the club's Hot August Nights ready to launch. The variety nights will each have a different theme and will have huge acts ready to entertain the community.
Rockabilly royalty Slim Gritty will be launching the recurring event on 6 August, Seven Deadly Swings will be performing on Freaky Friday, Ludy Sigrist will perform his Neil Diamond tribute show on the third Friday of the month, and the last Friday of the month will have a 70s disco vs rock show featuring Chi Chi Band.
Jukebox Jimmy will be hosting and DJing at each event, and said it would be a great night to come and enjoy what the Sandgate Bowls Club could offer the community.
This is a venture for entertainment principally for the Sandgate population, but we wish to expand the invite to Brisbane, he said.
Sandgate Bowls Club functions manager Steve Walsh said the club was completely run by volunteers and was Sandgate's best kept secret.
We have a big timber dance floor that's about 200 to 240 sqm, Steve said. It's the biggest dance floor in Sandgate. We've got a stage, a fully licensed bar, and all the facilities to create a really good atmosphere.
We have a really vibrant music culture in Sandgate and so we'd like Friday nights in Sandgate to be the night that people think about going to the bowls club for a beer, some live entertainment, and a dance.
Everyone can expect a really fun night. They can let their hair down and get rid of the stresses of the week. Have a couple of quiet cleansing ales and kick off the weekend in style.
The night will also have barbecue meals with a choice of steak, chicken or hamburgers, and vegetarian and vegan options will be available for patrons also. Each of the events will include prizes and giveaways, and some of them will have prizes for best dressed.
