Spring Swing Ball
The Sandgate Bowls Club will be blooming with spring fever when live band Seven Deadly Swings, DJ Jukebox Jimmy, and pin-up model and host Lulu Divine hit the stage for a swing- and rockabilly-themed extravaganza.

Event organiser and CEO of Rockabilly Australia Pty Ltd Jake Maloney said the ball would kick off a string of weekly Variety Friday events for September at the bowls club.

Not only will this event consist of fantastic music that will make you feel as if you've been transported back to a time of bobby socks and pompadours, it will also include a pin-up parade, Jake said.

Jake, who is also the lead singer of Seven Deadly Swings, said the bowls club was a fantastic venue for the ball.

It's got huge potential to get the whole community engaged and working together for the greater cause of live music, he said.

Seven Deadly Swings are a seven-piece neo-swing, jump blues, rockabilly, rock and roll band who will get the audience dancing to a mix of original music and popular covers.

The pin-up parade will be hosted by 4017's very own Lulu Divine, who has been mentoring pin-ups for almost eight years.

Lulu said the Sandgate Town Hall was home to the Sandgate debutante ball in the 1950s and 1960s. The Spring Ball is looking to bring life to the lovely history of Sandgate by featuring the Spring Ball Pin-Up Parade; an opportunity for entrants to showcase their favourite spring ball gowns, personalities and, most importantly, have fun, she said.

I'm hoping this event brings smiles and laughter to Sandgate. Having grown up in 4017, I am particularly passionate about rejuvenating our economy and seeing nightlife return to our beautiful seaside suburb.

The parade will feature up to 12 finalists selected by a panel of seasoned pin-ups. The finalists will compete in two categories, with three entrants taking home overall titles.

Variety Fridays will continue throughout the month with blues rock band The Hipshooters on 10 September and a Rockabilly Night with Jake and the Cadillacs on 17 September.
