Spooktacular to Deliver a Fun Night of Frights
What's creepy and kooky? Mysterious and spooky? All together ooky? It's the Sandgate Spooktacular!

The event is the brainchild of 11-year-old local Van Lawton, who was passionate about creating a Halloween-themed event in Sandgate where the community could come together to enjoy some spooky family fun.

Van's mother Sharon Lawton said he was excited to see everyone dressing up in costumes, as well as hearing the laughter and even some screams.

Van wanted the event to be open for all ages and abilities to enjoy and be based in the one location, rather than families having to jump in a car and drive around multiple suburbs to find houses that were participating in the Halloween festivities, Sharon said.

Held at Sandgate's Einbunpin Lagoon, the Sandgate Spooktacular will be an all-ages, all-access event where visitors can have a unique Halloween experience.

The event will kick off at around 4pm with a Little Creepers Trick or Treat for the younger kids who may not enjoy the 'scare' factor, but still enjoy the dress-up and adventure of Halloween, Sharon said.

This will be followed by a costume parade, a carve-your-own pumpkin competition, a spooky Halloween maze, food trucks and some spooky Halloween displays created by local residents to explore.

We'll also be running a couple of competitions, spooky dips (lucky dips) for early arrivals, a freakishly scary maze and face painters on hand for some frightful face painting.

The Ghostbusters will also make an appearance with their Ghostbusters car and proton packs at the ready, and there will even be an inflatable Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Sharon said it was exciting to be part of a community that is passionate about coming together and having fun.

Sandgate and the surrounding suburbs have always supported local activities and events, which we've seen through the annual Einbunpin Festival and Sandgate Christmas Parade, she said.

We think everyone is keen to dust the cobwebs off, and what better way to keep that community spirit going than to celebrate Halloween?

Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy is a proud supporter of the Sandgate Spooktacular, and said he was happy to endorse such a fun, family-orientated local event.

It will be a great evening with lots of family fun, all while supporting Van's charity of choice ' the Starlight Children's Foundation, he said.
