Variety Concert Is The Spice Of Life
If life has seemed like a broken record lately, a concert of diverse music performed by Brisbane’s newest and finest musicians is set to break the routine.

The variety concert ANTEMONOTONIE debuts at Sandgate Town Hall this month, so-called because it aims to relieve audiences from the monotony of life.

Director, producer and performer Kristian Scott – The Baritone came up with the concept for the show in response to the past three years of pandemic life.

“Everyone has been affected by COVID-19 differently, but I think the one thing everyone has in common was being stuck at home during lockdown,” Kristian said. “I found that, even whilst being able to work from home, it was very easy to get lost in the routine of the day-to-day.

“I knew that when we eventually came out of lockdown, we needed performance opportunities for both audiences and musicians. ANTEMONOTONIE was the answer for me – a show that not only challenged the idea of what a variety show looked like, but a show that was out of the ordinary and gives audiences something to look forward to.”

ANTEMONOTONIE is Kristian’s first show. Joining him in the cast of performers are baritones Camilo Lopez and Hainian Yu, tenors Ji Zhang and Connor Willmore, mezzo-soprano Maria Woolford, sopranos Jenny Gunnarsson and Naomi Klazinga, vocal ensemble Seren8, and pianist Jasmine Buckley.

“Most of the cast are local from Brisbane, but we also have cast members who hail from Venezuela and China – this has allowed for the presentation of some beautiful works from their home countries,” Kristian said.

“The joy of being able to sing together again is something that I hope translates to the audience.”

ANTEMONOTONIE celebrates music written across generations with a unique combination of ensemble, solo and duet pieces chosen by the vocalists of the show. There is something for everyone to enjoy including a duet from Mozart’s The Magic Flute and popular music like Toto’s Africa.

Kristian said Sandgate Town Hall was the perfect venue for the show.

“The acoustic of the hall is stunning, and is excellent for presenting all the different types of music we have on offer,” Kristian said.
