Popular Greek Coffee Shop Now a Taverna
One of 4017’s favourite family-owned coffee shops is set to become a bustling dine-in and takeaway Greek café with a menu full of mouth-watering meals and treats.

Co-owners Stuss and Linda Read have transformed Mythos Corner Store into Mythos Corner Café, due to open early next month.

Linda said they had been planning to become a Greek cafe since they bought the Deagon property six years ago.

“Our aim is to offer a true Greek style of eating – casual dining, delicious, fresh, unpretentious food, made with love and designed to share,” Linda said. “The café is literally an extension of our home, and we have tried to recreate the Greek home kitchen feel that we love so much.”

The shop on the corner of Adams and Barclay Streets has been fully renovated and redecorated, with a commercial kitchen installed.

“The café is decorated in the style of a traditional Greek home, with a collection of photographs, icons, china and knick-knacks gathered from different parts of Greece, and from our own family collection,” Linda said.

In 2002, husband and wife Stuss and Linda opened a Greek restaurant in Nundah when their children, Jack and Ella were two and four years old. It was successful, but exhausting, and they sold the business in 2007.

“This time, Jack and Ella will be working with us in the business,” Linda said. “We are so looking forward to working together as a family – although I’m sure we will have our moments!”

All the food will be made on site to Stuss’s recipes. Patrons can expect well-known Greek dishes such as yiros, spanakopita and moussaka.

“But there will also be other things that people may not have tried, that Stuss is absolutely dying to cook, such as swordfish, baby octopus, deep sea octopus, youvetsi, and much, much more,” Linda said.

“Naturally, you can’t have a Greek café without sweets, so these will be one of the biggest draw cards. As well as the baklava, galaktoboureko and rivani (orange syrup cake) we have already become known for, we will be offering a range of other pastries, biscuits and cakes.”

Opening hours will be Wednesday to Sunday from 7am to dinner.
