St Patrick’s College Commemorates 70 Year Anniversary
St Patrick’s College at Shorncliffe is celebrating ‘70 years educating by the sea’ with a series of special events, including a big weekend of sport this month.

A Celebrating 70 Years of SPC Sport lunch will take place on Friday, 10 June, followed by the school’s annual sporting event Back to Shorncliffe Day on Saturday, 11 June. All funds raised during these celebrations will go towards local landmark Morven House, which is in need of extensive repairs and renovations.

College principal Chris Mayes said Morven House was the rock of St Patrick’s.

“It is our foundation both physically and figuratively,” Chris said. “Since the mid-1800’s, it has brought much grandeur and admiration to Shorncliffe. After a period of deterioration, it was rebuilt as our school. It was the first classroom and home to our first teachers.

“Everything that has been built since 1952 has been built around it and holds its place as the beating heart of the college. But after 70 years, it is time for it to reclaim its position as the grand centrepiece both in looks and purpose. It may not have classrooms anymore, but it is home to our teaching staff and a place for visitors to be welcomed.”

College alumni, families and college friends are invited to join in the anniversary celebrations at the Celebrating 70 Years of SPC Sport lunch at Kedron-Wavell Service Club, where a panel of ‘Old Boys’ will discuss how the school influenced their pursuit of a career in sport.

Special guests include former Australian rugby union player and commentator, Drew Mitchell, Queensland Reds Player, Ryan Smith, former fast bowler for Queensland, Brendan Creevy, and Nutri Grain Ironman Series competitor, Matthew Palmer.

The following day, Back to Shorncliffe Day kicks off at Curlew Park with the college hosting Marist College Ashgrove as part of the rugby and football season. The event is free with food trucks and entertainment for the whole family.

This year, as the College celebrates 70 years, they are inviting all past students, families and the community to join the carnival-like atmosphere and enjoy a great day of SPC sport.

Tickets for Celebrating 70 Years of SPC Sport are $95, which includes a two course lunch and drinks. For tickets go to
