Dreaming Of A Vacation? Tips For Successfully Planning Your Next Adventure Abroad
Now that the world is opening up once again, travel plans are in full swing for many Australians. While the last few years have significantly changed the landscape for international tourism, the desire to travel hasn’t waned. Whether it’s a long overdue family visit, a tropical cruise, or a backpacking trip through Europe, consumers are ready to get out and explore the world more than ever.

Despite the desire for overseas travel, consumers are being challenged with navigating ever-changing border restrictions, staff shortages at airports, and strict health requirements before they even get on the plane. Rhonda Sutton, of Helloworld Travel in Sandgate, always advises clients to book early and do their homework.

“When travelling internationally, it’s a good idea to check with www.smartraveller.gov.au for the most up to date, country specific travel advisories,” she said. “Also, be sure to check with your travel consultant for any visa and entry requirements.”

Travellers also need to ensure that they have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining after their proposed return date to Australia.

“It’s currently taking over four months for new passports to be issued,” Rhonda said. “The last thing we want to see is our clients not being able to travel because they haven’t received their new passports in time.”

In the current climate, it’s also more important than ever to opt for booking options that have flexible change and cancellation policies. Additionally, be sure to review all travel insurance documents carefully to fully understand Covid related coverage and exclusions.

As airports, hotels and border agencies across the globe are feeling the pressure of being understaffed, be sure to allow plenty of extra time for checking in. Although most airlines and hotels do accept electronic copies of vaccination certificates and other documentation, having hard copies on hand can help to speed up your check in process. Finally, be sure to keep checking travel guidelines leading up to your departure date to stay informed of any last minute changes.

Despite all of this, there’s no better time than the present to get out and explore. With careful research, advance planning and a healthy dose of patience, travellers can ensure that their trip will be smooth sailing.
