$8000 raised for Local Youth Programs
A local organisation has been thanked by the Queensland Blue Light Association Incorporated (QBLAI) for their fundraising events, with proceeds going towards youth programs in Sandgate and surrounds.

Rock Under the Clock was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the Police Minister Mark Ryan and Deputy Commissioner Paul Taylor at the police headquarters in Brisbane last month.

Chairman of the Rock Under the Clock organisation team, Rod Kippen, said the rock and roll event they held at the Sandgate Bowls Club in May with Jim Hansen and The Sonics raised $8000 for the charity.

“The event went off very well in terms of the organisation, the guests’ enjoyment and the financial reward,” Rod said.

The QBLAI is a charity that provides early intervention and primary prevention programs for at-risk youth, such as the Blue EDGE program run at Bracken Ridge State High School last year.

Rod said their November event raised $7500. Proceeds went towards the program, which takes students through physical challenges and mentoring by local police officers.

“We are able to draw on the appeal of the 50’s and 60’s music to a demographic that has got grandchildren and sees the value of their money going to a good cause,” Rod said.

The next Rock Under the Clock event will be held later this year.
