4017 Art Competition: Opening Night Brings Community Together
Who will win the coveted First Prize? Which painting will be The People’s Choice? Join in the excitement and anticipation as the emerging artists of the 4017 celebrate their work at the 9th Annual 4017 Community Exhibition Opening Night.

Sip on a refreshing beverage, enjoy some nibblies, mingle with artists and art lovers, and perhaps even take a work of art home with you.

This competition was created by members of the Artrageous Arts committee especially to provide an opportunity for local emerging artists to showcase and promote their work and share their passion with their community.

After having to cancel this event last year because of COVID-19, the passionate volunteers at Artrageous are overjoyed to continue the tradition and expect many entries.  Shane Rodwell, Artist in Residence, said from the adversity of the last few years, including lockdowns and isolation, has come creativity.

“People found new ways to express themselves. The creative process of starting with nothing but an idea, working through how to portray that idea, then reviewing and refining the process, is excellent for mental health.

“It’s a big thing to have the confidence to exhibit your work,” Shane said.

The competition is always judged by professionals, making this an established event on the community art’s calendar. This year Janice Charlish, President of Moreton Bay Arts Council Inc, has the difficult task of choosing between the many entries. The winner will be announced at Opening Night and the prize is a Solo Exhibition during June 2023 at the value of $550. Shane Rodwell said it’s a great opportunity for the winning artist.

“We see this competition as an ideal first step on the ladder to becoming a professional artist and/or furthering their career. The winner is expected to have the drive and aspiration to fill an exhibition of their own.”

While browsing the entries, consider participating in one of the art programs supported and nurtured by people who understand creativity is vital to the wellbeing of both individuals and community. Who knows? Maybe you will have your own work to enter next year! FREE event – all welcome.
