Einbunpin Festival Turns 30!
It’s a big year for the Einbunpin Festival because the iconic event is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

On Sunday, 31 July, the festival will commemorate the milestone with a full day of fun, food and family activities, a special opening ceremony, and a showcase of the best local talent across three stages.

Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy said he was thrilled to be a part of the 30th Einbunpin Festival.

“I’ve never missed a festival, whether as a kid hanging out with my mates all day at the festival, or volunteering at 4am to set up, or now as festival chairperson,” Jared said.

“The importance of this festival must never be forgotten. There aren’t many festivals that have run for 30 years, rain, hail or shine, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find another community-run festival in Brisbane that brings more locals together to celebrate their community than ours.”

Appearing at the opening ceremony will be special guests and previous Deagon Ward Councillors, Denise Herbert, who started the festival in 1992, and Victoria Newton who grew the festival after Denise retired.

“There will also be a special cake cutting, town crier Fred Krebs, and Pete Vance singing the iconic Einbunpin song Something’s Going On,” Jared said.

This year sees the return of favourites like the pop-up library in the playground, the Jabiru Play Bus and all-day art activities with Kim Mancini.

“There will be over 150 various stalls to visit, including many different food options to tempt the taste buds,” Jared said.

Acts performing on the youth stage include Supercharge, Pier Pressure and Dublin Rose, while the festival arena will feature local school bands, choirs and dance troupes. The acoustic stage will have performances from surf-rock band Hugo Stranger and the Rattlers and the Bohemienne Dreams dancers.

Lagoon Street will be partially closed to accommodate amusement park rides like a giant slide, jumping castle and rock climbing wall.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the rides will be free all day for children of all ages to enjoy,” Jared said.

“We want people of all ages to be able to spend all day at the festival, buying things from our small businesses and community groups, getting something to eat and drink, play some games, listen to some music and have a great time with friends.”
