All The Buzz Of The Backyard Bonanza
A fun and affordable day out in your own backyard – that’s what’s on offer at this year’s Backyard Bonanza in Bracken Ridge.

Organiser Louise Gordon told the Sandgate Guide the community could expect a “mini-Ekka”.

“Making it affordable for everyone is really important to us, so it’s free to go in,” she said. “We’re going to have lots of rides, performances, and show bags as well.”

For the younger children, the characters from Paw Patrol will be making an appearance, with Street Science also coming along to perform for the whole family.

“People can expect to see lots of displays from community groups and schools, we’ve got a boxing demonstration and the Brisbane School of Iberian Swordsmanship will be there as well,” Louise said.

She added the day had a focus on sustainability.

“We’re encouraging everyone to bring their own reusable water bottles, which you will be able to fill up for free,” Louise said.

“Brisbane City Council will be there with lots of displays and advice about things like composting, so people will be able to come along and talk to the council staff and get lots of tips.”

Crowds of up to 5000 are expected to flock to McPherson Park, with the Lions Club miniature steam train rides a big drawcard.

“There will also be lots of different food options – including gluten free and vegan ice-cream, donuts, Indian food, and those delicious baked potatoes,” Louise said.

“A bit of everything, for everyone’s taste. And that’s really what the whole day is about – we’re making sure there’s something on offer for everyone, we want the whole community to come along and really enjoy the day.

“Post-Covid, it’s so important to get out and support these community events.”
