Bracken Ridge’s annual Backyard Bonanza is going to be bigger and better than ever this year.
More than 5000 people are expected at the event at McPherson Park on Sunday 26 May, with music, food and free activities on offer.
Taking to the stage as the headline act will be Claire Walters fronting her group, Franky Smart. It’s the second time the rising star has performed at the Backyard Bonanza.
“As a musician you get used to playing at night or late afternoon, so it’s a bit different to be doing a morning gig, but you know it’s quite refreshing as well,” she said.
“We have a super eclectic style, mainly inspired by jazz, funk and soul. We like to challenge ourselves and at the same time, appeal to a wide audience.
“For a gig like this, we like to make it really dancey as well, especially for kids that are going to be there, they love to dance.”
Franky Smart are currently in negotiations to produce their first four-song EP.
Kate Savage from Loud Events said there would be plenty of entertainment for children at the Backyard Bonanza.
“We have the famous Nickelodeon PAW Patrol hitting the stage as our main kids’ entertainment act,” she said.
“The kids will be able to have a meet and greet with Marshall, Chase and Skye.
“ We also have an awesome workshop planned from the team at SpurTopia, where we will be making our own bean sprout farm and some wicked wicking pots from recycled materials.
“The Youth Tent will be a total hit, with our up and coming young talent performing throughout the day.”
Kate said the Backyard Bonanza was proud to be a “waste free” event, and there would be free activities based around sustainability, education and the environment.
“Alongside this, we have incorporated the theme of ‘bring your dog to the BYB’, inviting all our beloved dogs down to McPherson Park for a fun filled family day,” she said.
