Australia Day celebrations in Sandgate will be a little different in 2021, but perhaps, even more meaningful. With the usual Australia Day by the Bay celebrations hosted by Councillor Jared Cassidy scaled back due to COVID-19, there is some good news – a very special citizenship ceremony at the Sandgate Town Hall is still on the cards.
Jared said that the citizenship ceremony would be all the more significant, after several this year had to be completed virtually.
“Many new citizens had to receive their certificates via Australia Post this year, which for many people was understandably disappointing,” he said. “We’re looking forward to being able to celebrate in person next year, all being well.”
Attendees will enjoy live music from Joe Beveridge, runner up at the Sandgate Youth Festival in 2020, and a morning tea prepared by the Queensland Country Women’s Association Sandgate branch.
Aboriginal Elder Uncle Joe Kirk will be providing a Welcome to Country and welcoming our newest citizens alongside Jared Cassidy, Stirling Hinchliffe MP and Anika Wells MP.
