Since 1992, the Einbunpin Festival has celebrated all the things that make the Sandgate community special. Last year’s event was a virtual one but this year, the festival is back in its original format.

Councillor for Deagon Ward Jared Cassidy said he was pleased the festival could return to its usual form.

“The local community has been hurting in many ways due to the pandemic,”Jared said. “This will give schools, community groups, and local businesses a chance to do some much-needed fundraising as COVID cancellations have meant many fetes and events have been unable to take place. These events are often the biggest fundraising events of the year, particularly for schools.”

The day includes activities for everyone including stalls, performances by locals, and games and activities. For the first time there’ll also be a partial road closure in Lagoon Street, which will allow for the inclusion of some amusement rides including a giant slide, jumping castle, and rock-climbing wall.

“It’s a great chance to learn more about our local community and catch up with friends,” Jared said. “Over the past few years now we have refocused the activities on family-friendly and free events so everyone can enjoy them – and they have been immensely popular. It’s the best community festival in Brisbane.”

Jared said the festival continued to provide an opportunity for the community to come together and show off the artistic talents found in the area.

Musical acts on the day will include Simian Sick, Supercharge, and Fifth Dynasty. There’ll also be a range of local school choirs and ensembles to keep the music flowing. Attendees will be able to visit stalls from Nashville State School, St Kieran’s Primary School, Sandgate State School, Brighton State School, Sacred Heart Primary School, Shorncliffe Potters, Queensland Country Women’s Association, and Jabiru Playbus. There’ll also be a pop-up library and storytime in the playground.

“Bring your family and friends and be ready for a full day out,” Jared said. “There will be entertainment all day, plenty of food and stalls to keep the whole family entertained and happy for the whole day.”
