Sandgate State School is combining fundraising with a celebration of the arts in the 4017 community.
The school is hosting an art show later this month, to raise funds to refurbish the tuckshop.
Art show organiser Pippa van Wijk said the school community was looking forward to the event.
“The refurbishment of our tuckshop has been on the to-do list for a few years,” she said.
“Our last attempt to fundraise for it was shut down due to COVID and it’s been a challenge to even consider another fundraiser since then with the possibility of more lockdowns. We haven’t had an art show for about five years, so it’s great to have this event back.”
The show will include works by prominent local artists, as well as by some of the school’s talented parents and students.
“We’re featuring artwork created by our kids as part of their Term Three arts curriculum,” Pippa said.
Sandgate State School P&C president Sophie Craker said she was excited to see the return of the art show.
“Our school has a long history of promoting and celebrating the arts,” she said.
“We are excited to be able to again host this wonderful event to raise much needed funds, as well as showcase the creativity of our wider community.”
The art show will have two sessions – an all-ages free afternoon session, and a ticketed event later in the evening for over 18s.
“Tickets for the evening event will include a glass of wine and a raffle ticket. Extra drinks and raffle tickets will be available to buy on the night, as well as cheese and charcuterie platters. Plus we’re going to have live music on the night from local performer Grace Spinks,” Pippa said.
“The art will be for sale via silent auction, and we will also have a live auction at the end of the evening for two or three key pieces.”
Pippa said the event had received support from Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy, State Member for Sandgate Stirling Hinchliffe, and Kylie Loof from Ray White Bracken Ridge, who had donated a TV as the major raffle prize. For more information or to donate art, email Eleanor at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
