Dig out the tinsel and baubles and get ready to trim the tree because the magic of Christmas is coming to Bracken Ridge.
The community is invited to showcase their Christmas spirit by decorating a tree for the inaugural Christmas Tree Festival at the Sandgate Northpoint Anglican Church on Friday, 26 November.
Sandgate Northpoint priest in charge Mike Donaldson said the church was hoping schools, community groups and businesses would get involved in the festival.
“We are seeking participation from across the community, asking them to contribute a decorated tree up to 1.2 metres tall that tells a story of their organisation or business,” Mike said.
“We encourage contributors to be creative and make or decorate a tree that reflects their business or organisation. Families are also encouraged to contribute.
“It is free to contribute a tree and admission on the night will also be free.”
There will be plenty of activities to get everyone in the festive mood, besides enjoying the decorated trees. Festival-goers will be delighted when the front lawn of the church comes to life with Christmas lights.
“Over the last few years we have developed our display of lights,” Mike said. “At the centre of the display is a tree about six metres tall and featuring twinkly programmed lights.”
Food stalls will have the crowd eating, drinking and feeling merry and there will be unique Christmas gifts available for purchase.
“We will have a sausage sizzle, tea, coffee, cold drinks and donuts,” Mike said. “We will have handmade tree decorations and handmade gifts along with a wide range of Christmas cooking.”
Singers from the Samoan community, a group of ukulele players and other musical entertainment will spread Christmas cheer throughout the evening.
“We are focusing on the event being a gathering of the community,” Mike said.
Those wishing to contribute a Christmas tree will need to complete the registration form at www.anglicanin4017.org.au

as soon as possible.
Participants are asked to deliver their imaginatively decorated trees to the church on Thursday evening between 4pm and 6pm, or Friday morning between 10am and midday. For more information search for Sandgate-Northpoint Anglican Parish on Facebook or go to www.anglicanin4017.org.au.Christmas Tree FestivalFriday, 26 November, 5.30-8.30pmAnglican Church Bracken Ridge Church103 Denham Street, Bracken Ridge
