Prepare for a riotous evening when Sandgate Theatre unveils the show-stopping sequel to their sold-out smash hit, The Vicar of Dibley.

This month, the beloved characters from St Barnabas are returning to the Sandgate Town Hall, bringing with them a fresh tale filled with laughter and the potential for new romance.  

Director Danny Cruise, inspired by the success of the first Dibley play, said he couldn’t resist the temptation to create another instalment.

“This play will be a little different from the previous play,” he said. “It will be funny, of course, but it will also have emotional moments.”

Drawing from his experience with projections in the play Misery, Danny said he planned to incorporate similar elements into The Vicar of Dibley 2.

“I introduced projections for Misery as it extended the entertainment for the basic ‘play’ format to an experience that stimulated the senses and added an extra dimension, such as travelling from a first-person point of view through the home of Annie Wilkes, or not just ‘hearing’ but ‘seeing’ the rain on a window,” he said.

Taking to the stage once again, Jenny Walsh said she was looking forward to reprising her leading role as the vivacious vicar, Geraldine Granger.

“She is kind, funny and has the best intentions of making Dibley a better place to live and be,” Jenny said. “And of course, I’m looking forward to hearing that laughter from the audience. It’s the best feeling. And believe me, there will be plenty of laughter in this play.

“I think the audience enjoys the depth of this show. There is lots of laughter, of course, but there are moments of sadness for the vicar, which I think a lot of people will connect and empathise with.”

Joining Jenny in the cast are James Reid as David Horton, Macauley Franke as Hugo, Freya Crema as Alice, David Jones as Owen, John Sayles as Jim, and Greg Jones as Frank. The play, put together by John using scenes from the popular British sitcom, centres around Geraldine’s pursuit of love.

“Will she stay ‘married’ to her job as the vicar or will she be desperate enough to marry Jim, or even Owen?” Jenny said. “Will the tall, dark and handsome stranger sweep her off her feet? Hopefully this time she will be successful in love.”
