Shanasheel is a unique ensemble within the Australian World Music scene specialising in classical and folk repertoire from Iraq, Egypt, Syria and other regions of the Middle East.
Violinist, Arabic fiddle and Joza player Nawres Alfreh says, “Join us as we explore the rich tapestry of Arabic and Middle Eastern music and discover why it’s an art form that deserves to be celebrated and cherished.
“This musical journey transcends borders and cultures. It’s a unique experience that will leave you enchanted and inspired by the beauty of its tonality and stories told through our melodies. The melodies are full of emotion. This is the power of music. And we express this by utilising a high level of musicality and soulful ornamentations.”
Members of the ensemble have played together for many years in other incarnations, united in their passion for a genre that reflects depth and richness.
And they’ve graced the stage with that presence at many renowned and prestigious events from WOMAD to Woodford Folk Festival.
A commentator says of Shanasheel’s music: “It’s a fine work that speaks to the soul, and heals and uplifts the human experience into higher levels of well being”.
So there you have it. If you wish to take wings, or simply bow to the beauty of music, this concert could be for you.
