Shanasheel is a unique ensemble within the Australian World Music scene specialising in classical and folk repertoire from Iraq, Egypt, Syria and other regions of the Middle East.

Violinist, Arabic fiddle and Joza player Nawres Alfreh says, “Join us as we explore the rich tapestry of Arabic and Middle Eastern music and discover why it’s an art form that deserves to be celebrated and cherished.

Members of the ensemble have played together for many years in other incarnations, united in their passion for a genre that reflects depth and richness.

And they’ve graced the stage with that presence at many renowned and prestigious events from WOMAD to Woodford Folk Festival.
