Dive into School Holiday Fun
Summer holidays are all about cooling off in the swimming pool and watching the latest movies, and now you can do both at the one exciting event.

End the school holidays with a splash at a free, family-friendly pool party and movie night watching Space Jam: A New Legacy at the Sandgate Aquatic Centre.

Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy has teamed up with the lessees at the Sandgate Aquatic Centre, Australian Crawl, to organise the special event on Saturday, 22 January.

I thought it would be nice to have a 'Back to School' event on the last Saturday before school returns, Jared said.

With the new school year about to start the following week, I thought it would be a good way for families to have a relaxing, free night out and what better venue than the Sandgate Aquatic Centre, given it's such a hot time of the year.

We have had live music events and barbecues in parks in previous years in January, but the issue we've always had is the heat. Splashing around in the pool is a great way to beat the summer heat and have one last pool party before school goes back.

The fun starts at 4pm with live music. There will be food and drinks for sale including snow cones, ice cream, and a barbecue. The movie will begin at approximately 7pm.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a recent release and has been a very popular movie, Jared said.

Basketball player LeBron James stars as himself in the fun-filled adventure film. After his son is kidnapped by a villainous algorithm, he is turned into a cartoon and transported to the world of Looney Tunes. He teams up with Bugs Bunny and his friends to compete in a high-stakes animated basketball game that has to be seen to be believed.

I want to thank Australian Crawl for their support of this event, Jared said.

They are making entry free for those coming to this event, which will make this a great, affordable day out for the family. Bring a chair or picnic rug and settle in for the night.

A ticket is required to gain free entry to the pool. To get your free ticket, search for Pool & Movie Party on Eventbrite or go to Councillor Jared Cassidy's Facebook page.
