The Deck Bar Opens For Community Enjoyment
Shorncliffe, one of Brisbane North’s most cherished seaside suburbs, is home to the Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane (VMR).

VMR happily sits on the waterfront overlooking the Sandgate Yacht Club, Moreton Bay and the Port of Brisbane.

Though the folks at VMR are well-known for their commitment to water safety, they are also quite the social venue.

“We are a community hub and we encourage locals to gather and enjoy these surroundings,” Matt Bugler, Junior Vice President, said.

VMR are grateful to their patrons and value their feedback.

“In response, we’re opening The Deck Bar,” Matt said.

The Deck Bar is unique. It will be open every Friday from 4pm to 8pm, beginning 5 April.

For sale will be a variety of beers, pre-mixed spirits, wines, sparkling wines and even soft drinks and poppers for kids. Snacks can be purchased too.

“We’re open to everyone, including parents who can enjoy a drink on the deck while watching their kids play below,” Karen McGowan, Venue Manager, said.

With takeaway shops nearby, VMR encourages everyone to bring their own food.

Matt and Karen suggested Shelley Inn down the road.

“Bring your own fish and chips or even your own cheese platters,” they said.

VMR is all about the waterfront without waterfront prices. It’s also easy to access, with Shorncliffe Station only a 5-minute walk away.
