Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane Inc

Although our origins can be traced back to 1912 as a sailing club, Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane was born in 1996 and is now in charge of the search and rescue activitations within the Moreton Bay region. VMR Brisbane owns 3 rescue vessels, Sandgate 1 an 8.3m Kevlacat powered by twin 250 HP 4 stroke outboards, Sandgate Rescue 2 a 5.9 m Swift RIB powered by a 150 HP 4 stroke and Sandgate 2 a 4.9 m Stabicraft powered by a 60 HP 4 stroke outboard.

A number of improvements have been made over the years to the original club building at Allpass Parade Shorncliffe including extensions to the hall, a caterers kitchen and a new fresh look to the main entrance. In addition a boat ramp, pontoon, and boat sheds within the grounds have been added to cater for our vessels. VMR Brisbane is also home to the Sandgate Yacht Club (SYC) which was born from the original sailing club from 1912. The Sandgate Paddling Club, Polynesian Va'a-alo Outrigger Canoe Club and Xiang Dragon Boat Club have also been affiliated under the banner of VMR Brisbane.

Today, our rescue squadron now has approximately 85 active crew members who train regularly on their crew days to be able to perform their duties in case of an emergency out on the bay or in a neighbouring waterway. VMR Brisbane actively trains with a number of other VMR and Coastguard squadrons in the Moreton Bay area. 

VMR Brisbane is constantly on stanby 24/7 in case of an emergency. We provide support for the Queensland Water Police to help with search and rescue as well as the Queensland Ambulance Service to transport them to the various Islands for medivacs. Venue Hire. Our base at 95 Allpass Parade Shorncliffe is located on the banks of Cabbage Tree Creek with views out to the bay and the Port Of Brisbane. Table seating is provided for up to 120 guests and we also have full bar facilities (a tab can be run for your function). We have a caterers kitchen where you can do or organise your own catering. There is a small stage and dance floor with PA system and large remote screen and projector making the venue the ideal place to hold your next meeting or function. A covered balcony overlooks the lawns which can be used for a marquee, this is also the area used for our monthly food truck events and when our downstairs bar serves a variety of craft beers on tap. The venue is available to all at a very reasonable rate with proceeds going towards the upkeep of our base and vessels.
